RSU International Student Conference 2018 is not just about the incredible experience of presenting your scientific research in front of a huge auditory and learning something new from someone else’s scientific work presented on the stage. ISC 2018 is also about two days of relentless workshops, festivities and all kinds of other activities for social and health science students.

* For active paricipants all submissions for Health sciences and Social workshops will be open  February 1st.
* For passive participants:  In case of available spots, if you register  until February 15, you will have a chance to attend the workshops!

Medical plants in cosmetics – lectures and practical activities with medical plants, their purpose and usage in cosmetics, aromatic water, lip balm, body cream, therapeutic and natural substance creation.

Time: 15:00-16:30; 16:30-18:00 

Microbiology- participants will have the opportunity to use some of the most widely used bacterial diagnostic methods like VITEK. During the workshop, the attendees will be identifying different bacteria grown in the RSU Department of biology and microbiology and analysing if they’re resistant to antibiotics.

Pediatrics – pediatric resuscitation practices on a new-born baby simulator in different emergency situation simulations, resuscitation of a 6-year-old child, including intubation, defibrillation, trauma management, intraossal injections and a theoretical testing of pediatrics.

Psychosomatics - "Balint group - Fishbowl"

The "Fishbowl" offers the possibility for a big group of people to take part in an in-depth view of the relationship between doctor/student and patient in the context of everyday ordinary-length consultations.

Psychiatry

A psychopharmacology themed workshop focusing on the disturbances in neurosignaling pathways in psychiatric disorders and their respective correction using psychotropics, featuring a brief summary of neuroanatomy and neurochemistry.

Semper Anticus

A workshop about writing articles and submitting publications to scientific journals organised by Riga Stradins university student popular scientific journal Semper Anticus.

Learn the difference between the popular scientific and scientific language style and article structure and discover where and how to publish the results of your research papers!

Scientists will also be participating in the workshop to share their vast experience.

Healthcare meets technology - ideation workshop | DF LAB

A workshop about digital transformation and how the trends in IT shape the future of the world and healthcare. It will involve team brainstorming sessions, where under the guidance of technical mentors the participants will work on the ways to use new technologies for problem-solving in healthcare.

Participants will have a chance to see the application of new technologies.

ENT – otoscopy and tympanostomy tube insertion skills.

Time: 14:00-15:30; 16:00-17:30

Anesthesiology and Reanimatology – student provision with some of the most important knowledge needed for future anesthesiologists. Offers entrance to trainee programmes in airway management, CPR simulation, ECG interpretation and Intraosseous cannulation.

Obstetrics and Gynecology – opportunity to experience realistic critical situations in Obstetrics via SimMom and improve skills in Intrauterine Device insertion.

Traumatology and Orthopedics – opportunity to learn and understand osteosynthesis and try it for yourself.

Radiology – real radiological case studies and students’ attempts to connect them with clinical findings. Ultrasound examination classes and biopsies.

Surgery – skill training and improvement in sewing, knotting, laparoscopic operations and procedures, most popular sutures, starting from simple to interrupted sutures, simple continuous and interrupted Donati, intradermal suture and many others. Learning various types of surgical knots and knotting, for example, bimanual, intermanual and one-handed knots. Laparoscopic operation skill training programme using an artificial simulator for appendectomy, cholecystectomy, ovariectomy and any other operation a student can choose. Provision with Harmonic coagulator and mechanical surgical stapler.

Internal medicine – testing of clinical thinking skills by solving medical conundrums. Creation of unique differential diagnosis, following clues in the description of the patient, interpretation of lab work and ECGs, endoscopy training, teamwork, short-term and long-term treatment planning, and so much more in order to figure out the patient’s illness.

Dentistry, Oral and maxillofacial surgery – opportunity to do an uncomplicated teeth extractions, intraoral local anesthesia, ligatures and virtual simulations for more complex procedures – removal of impacted wisdom teeth, periapical surgery, etc.

Massage Master Class – reducing tension in the busiest parts of human body – the neck and shoulder area as techniques of head massage. Investing time for this will be valuable and enjoyable for you and others. Give time for others, but most of importantly give time for yourself.
