The main idea of this lecture is to provide students with modern views of the changes and challenges facing Latvian socio-economic development. These challenges are of the double nature: with external influences (e.g. from the European Union and globalization’s instances) and stemming from internal economic and political factors.

The ability to read many types of media has become an essential skill in the 21st Century. Media literacy is the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and create media in a varity of forms.
